What if God was lovingly speaking to you in your day to day? What if you could discern what that meant for your life moving forward? Many have heard of Lectio Divina as a way to hear what God is saying to His people, but it was only in the last year that I was introduced to Lectio of Life. In this discipline, you will use the events of your own life to listen to God instead of using scripture.
Sit and Reflect
Give yourself at least 2 minutes to consider the last month of your life. Choose from your last month of life a moment that you found Moving/emotional.... Impactful/challenging. Then reflect on the details of that day.
Create A Lectio
Take the time to write in detail about the day surrounding this event in 8 to 12 sentences using the following questions as a guide.
What was that moment like for you?
What specific details about the place or people do you see?
What emotions surround this event in your life?
What motivated or drove you to go to.... or do this event in your life?
Discover The Pattern
With your written 8-12 sentences, Go through your story several times and circle anything that fits into the following items.
Anything that seems to stand out in the story, Important or unique details.
Any repeating phrases...words... or ideas
Discern God's Voice
Hold these words, or phases close to your heart for a few moments reflecting on their meaning, and then ask God to guide you in understanding what they could mean for your life. What might His intention be? what might the invitation be for your life?
Write down how God may have put the pieces of your story into a cohesive thought.
consider how you can put into practice His loving guidance in your life.
Thank God
Just take a few moments to thank God for his time with you, and whatever guidance he may have given or will continue to give you from this time with Him.

As I was preparing for a particularly busy week, I was drawing near to finishing the dinner table building project that I had started and finished, then had to rip apart and start again over a year ago. I was looking forward to it being finished. That Thursday, after a wall to wall day, I scrambled to the hardware store to buy the final pieces and rush home to set in place and finish this project. With sweat running down my dace I placed the final screws and turned it over. With the table in my living room I sat back on my couch to enjoy my wife's homemade red pepper ravioli and pictured my family sitting around this table for years to come. In the rush of exhaustion and excitement I became emotional knowing that It would be good.
