Pray Like David

Psalm 23 is one of the most beautiful expressions of the kingdom of God found in scripture. It shows God caring for us, providing for us, blessing us, and leading us even in trying circumstances.

Why Psalm 23?

The God of Psalm 23 is generous. Because of Gods generous provision, protection and care we have nothing that we lack. God invites us to find rest, to be refreshed and to be restored. God leads and guides us even in our most painful situations. Because God is with us we can live without fear. God even prepares a table for us in the presence of those who would harm us. God not only provides what we need, he gives more than we need and our cup overflows. When we walk with God as our good shepherd, we see our entire life, even our trials and suffering as mercy and goodness from God.

Cary and pray this psalm with you as you Go this week….

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.

How Does this Psalm EMPOWER my soul?

This Psalm speaks about the true narrative of God. He is generous, kind and protective. When we let the truth of that narrative wash over us it begins to become our narrative and the language that we use to describe God and even our circumstances changes. If you truly pray this genuinely, it can change the way we see suffering and it draws us closer to the true goodness of God.

I absolutely love this psalm! It has carried me through many dark circumstances. He has taught me some deep truths from it including the ones you listed Dustin. He also has taught me that He has to " make us lie down and green pastures" because we want to go in our direction. In His Presence is "green pastures". He feeds us , sustains us and loves us there
