The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

Lets just put it simply "Holy Leisure" is doing nothing for God's sake... we do nothing... but we do it for God. Seems simple enough but most of the time people fail when they attempt this Spiritual Discipline. Americans struggle in their efforts to find balance in all the activities in life and appreciate the beauty of life in the moment because they are so consumed with going from point A to point B.

Understanding Why

life has this beautifully simple truth that can give us a foundation to stand on, you do not have to strive for needs and that everything we need will be provided. For some reason we strive at our want for more and what we want requires us to push and strive at something we already had.

"Holy Leisure" puts this to death... because we just do nothing... in a holy way. We say things like "killing time" and end up feeling a false guilt about something that God asked us to do thousands of years ago for our good... true sabbath... or "investing time in resting in God" for our spiritual health and connection to God.

Difficulty In Nothing

no matter where I am, every group I have ever seen do this inevitably says... "I cannot do this one".

Here's a hard truth for everyone, we all waste time... but not with purpose, and we never do nothing with time intentionally …. what we are setting out to do is purposefully setting aside time for nothing with God... it almost sounds crazy.

It's Not Crazy! Go Do Nothing!

life is a gift, you are a gift, nothing in life is earned its all given whether you see it or not.

just simply being for a few minutes instead of doing can heal in ways you never thought possible.

First: Set Aside Time

5-10 minutes(more if you think you can)

Second: Get Comfortable

find a place of comfort

Third: Stop Doing

do not do anything... just be ...do not do

Questions

can I read? …..no, unless a passage of the bible comes to mind.

can I journal?.....maybe, if a thought comes that you want to write so you remember. not a task

can I take a walk? … maybe, all depends on motive. not exercise. not to get somewhere specific.

what if I fail?...Its ok, do as you can …not as you cant... and be at peace
